· Students (18-23) - Leaving Certificate or equivalent
· All entries will be subject to interview.
Course Description
One-year full-time intensive course providing students with an introduction to the theories and practices of social studies and social care.

FETAC National Vocational Certificate Level 5 (5M2181)
Work Experience
Work Experience is an integral part of this course. Students must obtain 80 hours work experience in a related area. The period of work experience will be specified by the college. This work placement provides students with first-hand experience of work in the care/health area.

This course provides students with the foundation skills required for employment in a social care setting, e.g.

It also equips students with a knowledge base for further studies and students obtaining certification in Social Studies may progress to 3rd Level education at selected colleges under the Higher Education Links Scheme.
