College Policy for PLC Students

We aim to provide you with the best possible education while you are attending Wexford Vocational College for Further Education.  To support us in this, we ask for your co-operation in maintaining an acceptable standard of behaviour throughout.  As an adult learner, we expect certain standards of behaviour and cooperation from you which are outlined below.  We invite you to please read this document carefully.  Any Further Education student who is enrolled at Wexford Vocational College is subject to this Policy.  This is a condition of enrolment and is not dependent on the Code being signed by the learner.  Failure to comply with this policy may lead to you being asked to leave the course.

Attendance

It is essential that you arrive in College on good time, morning and afternoon. Punctual and regular attendance is required and necessary if students are to make full use of the education opportunities we offer. Please note that maintenance grants are payable on the basis of recorded attendance. Casual absences only hinder progress and should be avoided.  College tutors reserve the right to refuse your admission to a class if you are late. 

Conduct

You are required to conduct yourself in a mature and responsible manner and respect all members of the College community.

Litter

Litter should be placed in the bins provided and you should keep the College tidy.  Food & drink is not permitted in any classroom.

Books/ Materials

Books or other reference materials given to you remain the property of the College/Tutor. They should be kept in good condition and returned before the summer holidays.

Photocopier

The Photocopier is for Staff use only.

Computers

Students must comply with the college computer policy – copy available on request.  All students with access to College computers must first sign the computer usage policy.

Personal Equipment

Personal items are your own responsibility. The College accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage.  Wearing headsets in class, listening to MP3/4 Players, a cassette etc… is forbidden for safety reasons. 

College Equipment

Students who damage College property will be required to pay the cost of making good the       damage.

Dress Code

Neat dress is required. The wearing of caps or hats is not permitted in the College buildings.

College Hours

The College official openings hours are 8.30 a.m. – 4.00 p.m. Monday – Friday.  Classes commence at 9.00 a.m.

Drugs

The possession or use of any illegal substances or alcohol is strictly forbidden in the College. A   statement of the College policy on illegal substances is available on request.

Smoking

Smoking is not allowed in the College or in the vicinity of the College grounds. (Policy statement available on request).

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones must be turned off during class and must not be on the desk.

Motorbikes/Cars

Limited car parking spaces are available in designated areas for those with a current insurance policy.  The provision of parking spaces is solely at the discretion of the College Authorities for the duration of the school year only.  Students using motorised transport school see College policy (available on request).

Jewellery

Students are not allowed to wear any facial rings for Health and Safety reasons.

Loitering

Students are strictly prohibited from loitering in the vicinity of the houses adjacent to the College e.g. Westgate, Westgate Park and Croke Ave, and Westgate Yard.

Project and Assignments

Students will be required to compile and submit projects and assignment during the courses of the year.  Project briefs, instructions and deadlines will be posted on the PLC Notice Board in the GP Area of the College. 

Deadlines for Projects

Project Deadlines must be adhered to, late submissions will not be accepted unless a doctor’s certificate is submitted on or before the deadline date and a final date will then be set by the teacher.  All projects must be submitted to the subject teachers, NOT to the office or staffroom.

Compassionate Consideration re: Final Module Examinations

Students who miss an exam date due to exceptional circumstances may apply in writing to the College requesting a rescheduled examination date.  Documentary evidence may be required.
