Garda Vetting Application Form: Guidelines
(Please see Entry Requirements section for a list of courses requiring Garda vetting).
The form must be completed in full using BLOCK CAPITALS.
If any section of the form is not applicable to the applicant, this must be indicated by using N/A.
Alias is any other name that the applicant is known by other than their forename on their birth certificate.
Place/city of origin is the area in which the applicant resided following his /her birth not the location of the hospital where the applicant was born.
Address section
You must include all your addresses on the form from your date of birth to your present address. Where there is no house number, this should be indicated by inserting N/A.
You must show all foreign addresses. This includes Irish Nationals who have resided abroad for over 6 months. Foreign Nationals must state all addresses from their date of birth to the time they came to Ireland followed by all addresses in Ireland to the present date.
The Garda Vetting Letter, which will be requested by employers, will be sent to the most recent address on the form.
Offences
Thequestion “Have you ever being convicted of an offence in the Republic of Ireland or Elsewhere?” must be answered. All offences must be disclosed including Road Traffic Offences, Juvenile offences, suspended sentences and fines.
Correcting Errors
Errors must be corrected using pen while ensuring all details are still legible. Tippex or correctional fluid must not be used.
Signatures
The form must contain the applicant's original signature. The form must NOT be signed by a local Garda. Co. Wexford VEC will liaise directly with the Garda Central Vetting Unit.
Submitting the Form
The original completed form must be returned to Wexford Vocational College. Copies cannot be accepted. Incorrectly completed forms will be returned to the applicant and may delay the course application.
Results of the Vetting Process
Once the vetting process has been carried out by the GCVU, the results of the vet will be forwarded to Co. Wexford VEC.
Additional Documentation Requirements
An applicant that has resided outside of Ireland, including Northern Ireland, for three years or more, after the age of 18, is required to provide the following supporting documentation when submitting their Garda Vetting Application Form:
- An original police clearance from the jurisdiction(s) of previous residence supporting the time spent in that country.

An original character reference from their most recent employer (on company headed paper).
Wexford Vocational College reserves the right to seek a sworn declaration where a satisfactory police /criminal records disclosure is not available.
